Privacy Notice
Version 1 · October 26, 2026
Who we are
The Tarion Accountability Project is an independent, non-commercial project. It is not affiliated with Tarion Warranty Corporation. For any privacy question or request, write to privacy@tarionaccountability.com.
What we collect
- Homeowner accounts: what you write about your claim, the categories you choose, how far your claim went, the year it began, your email address if you give it, and the sharing and contact choices you make.
- Press and lawyer inquiries: your name, organization, email, phone number if you give it, your role, what you are requesting and your message.
- With each submission we record the date, your choices and the version of this notice you saw.
- We do not collect files, and we do not use analytics or advertising cookies.
How we use it
We read each account to understand how claims are being handled and to look for patterns across accounts. We contact you only if you allow us to. We use inquiries only to respond to them.
Sharing
Your submission is private by default. We share it only as you choose on the form:
- Regulators and the Ministry: your account and your email.
- Journalists: your account, without your name or email.
- Lawyers assessing or pursuing legal action against Tarion: your account and your email.
Your account is shared as you wrote it, so details in it may identify you. Leave out anything you don’t want shared, or ask us to remove it. Before sharing, we check your choices and keep a record of who received your account and when. We will ask for your separate permission before publishing your account.
Where it is stored and who can see it
Submissions are stored in a database on the project’s Cloudflare account, which also hosts this site and forwards email sent to privacy@tarionaccountability.com. Forwarded email is received in the project’s Google (Gmail) inbox. This site loads fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser contacts Google when you visit. Cloudflare may process technical information, such as your IP address, to operate and protect the site. Access to submissions is limited to the people running the project. Submissions are never stored in the public website or its code repository.
How long we keep it
We keep submissions only as long as they are needed for the purposes above, and we periodically review what we hold and delete what is no longer needed.
Your choices
To see, correct or delete your submission, or to change or withdraw your sharing choices, write to privacy@tarionaccountability.com and include your receipt reference if you have it. We will act on your request unless the law requires otherwise. We cannot recall copies already shared with recipients you allowed, but we will tell them about your request.
Disclosure required by law
We may have to disclose information if the law requires it, for example in response to a court order.
Changes
If we change this notice, we will update the version and date above. Each submission records the version in effect when it was made.
